A Maker's Life

Oh I truly love this time of year.... This is the start of our day and a new week on Sassafras Hill.  Again, I am up before the birds, painting pumpkins.   This puts a slight dent in my pile!  I have been waiting out the heat wave, so they aren't over baked on the line.

I have been stitching and stitching and stitching as you can see!  It has helped my heart to heal after learning of the  awful way we were ripped off from the last shop I was in....  I feel content to be able to do what I love every day, and that is something that can not be taken away. We are in a good place.

I wanted to reach the tree in the woods, but am a bit short and afraid the line will break.  There are several more to the right, but that's all I could photo in one snap..... 64 in all, and stopping for a bit to work on some bottle dolls.  and Matthew is covered in sawdust already.... he is finishing some new display pieces and cutting some pumpkins for outside!  I am grateful he has had a summer finding joy in making.

I will have plentiful autumn offerings in Hidden Treasures and Cozy Cat Primitives ... also our two  upcoming shows.

Have a beautiful week where you are, and with what you have.... Love, Denise and Matt

Happy May Day

I'm not sure why, but I always feel more like a spring chicken on May 1st!  I love springtime and the warmer days, and our gardens.  Tag sales have started, and Matt has brought home a few treasures to surprise me.  The first Brimfield Flea Market of the year begins May 10th and I am looking forward to it!

April was a rough month for us.  I can't believe all that happened in a month's time, but we made it to the other side!  I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer take on any special orders while caring for my mom.  My stress level is just too high already.   What you find at the shows and shops I'm in will be my only offerings, except for a little bit on my etsy page and my website.  I am so sorry for that, but I have to do what's best for my family and keep the focus on them.

After a month of almost no creating, this past week was a very productive one and I took a trip to Hidden Treasures to replenish the prim room.  Lots of my cute little raggedies, a mercantile piggy, some woolen kitties, patriotic ornies, and signs and blocks to fill it up.   It looks very nice, and I am hoping to make another trip this week.  I am so proud of Laura!   The love she has for her shop really shows!

Springtime in Connecticut

So, after the easiest winter ever, spring is on our doorstep!  I did not miss the snow and the bitter cold weather. The daffodils are emerging from the earth, and I am very tempted to start raking out the garden beds.  Another few weeks and the peas get planted for my stir fries.  yummy.  A few more trees came down in the fall so we should have the best veggies ever with more sunshine in the garden beds.

This has been a good week for us, with our first big show behind us.  The truck went in for a brake job, so we are good to go, go, go.  Scoping out the rummage sales already for some more materials to work with!

I started folding all my fabrics, but the wool was calling to me.... for a little while I am stitching up some of my old style kitties, some little acorns, ellies,  and pumpkin doll bodies, to work on in the evenings after our daily visit with my momma.

remember these guys?   haven't done them in so long and they are rockin' this wool!

I signed up for another show, even though I said I wouldn't..... Some are just too special to pass up.   Details are on my show page, and I will update some more before the show.  Very excited and already planning some special things for it!

Today was spent creating some awesome new spring room spray scents for Hidden Treasures.  I hope to bring another batch of new spring things in next week, as well as a special order.
Tomorrow morning is a quick trip up to Southampton's Cozy Cat Primitives to visit my buddy Norm, now that I have brakes again!

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are!

Watermelon Weekend And Work in The Gardens

A quick lil pop up treasury to celebrate the weekend with my Hafair team artisans.

Yeah for the weekend.  It was a very short week for us this week, and I am playing pedal to the metal with my sewing machine to catch up.  Hoping to make a trip to Hidden Treasures for the weekend, and working on goods for Walker Homestead show which is coming up quickly now....

oh, and I do not think I have blogged for weeks, but we have a really nice selection of handmades at Cozy Cat Primitives in Southampton Ma.  Norm has been a collector of my work for years, and I am so honored to have my work in his shop!   If you are in the area on a weekend, this beautiful shop is a must see.  We were blown away from the moment we drove up.  The inside is like a fine gallery of prim.... just amazing.  Check it out on Facebook and be sure to like his page so you can see what Norm and kitty Ben are up to!  and please let him know how you found him...

We are working in the gardens, after a few years of neglecting them.  It's nice to see Matt motivated again, especially with his brother so ill.  I think it's been good for him to see how much better they look and I will snap some photos when I can.  I am praying for some rain though, because we have transplanted a bunch of things.

Spring Handmades

'Twas a beautiful spring day here in Connecticut.   My favorite season, with so much promised...

We dropped off a load of garden and mother's day signs and blocks and other handmades to Hidden Treasures.  We had a lovely chat with Laura, who pitched in and helped us get in, before our trip.  Thank you Laura, I really appreciate all your efforts to help us, when we need it most! oxo

This was the last load before our trip and it all looks so nice in Laura's beautiful shop.

After much huffing and puffing, I think I found Florida clothes....  Spent much of the winter stress eating and hiding in cozy comfy clothes.   Damn those Cheez Doodles and Smart Food.   Oh well.

Anyway, I am so much looking forward to the cherry trees blooming on the way down.... I think it will be nice to enjoy them twice this year!   I am also hoping to hit up a few thrift stores or flea markets while away, for craft supplies.

Today's Work Table

A busy day here....

Laura said our handmade blocks have been a hit at Hidden Treasures, and today was spent working on another batch.   They will be in shop by the end of the week.  This batch was done with mother's day in mind, but will also be great any time you are thinking of your momma!  Just a peek of what's coming...

if you like her facebook page (badge on the blog sidebar) you will receive updates whenever I bring new goods in!

We've been busy getting ready for our journey.... a couple more days of packing and planning.  My boys will be holding down the fort for us, with a little help from my momma, but are not able to do my orders.... Any orders will be processed when we return.
